MLT South: 2026 Summer Champions Cup Preview

Week 2 of the club circuit is shaping up to be memorable with one of the South’s best events scheduled this weekend. MLT South is proud to host the Summer Champions Cup, an elite lacrosse tournament that hosts the best clubs and players in the South, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The PLL is hosting its second week of play in Charlotte, offering attendees of the Summer Champions Cup a complimentary ticket for each player. The Summer Champions Cup is the only event that partners with the PLL.

The Summer Champions Cup is being hosted at two top of the line facilities, Richard Berry Park and Cornelius Park. We’re expecting a competitive weekend of lacrosse down South and we’re excited to welcome some elite clubs to Charlotte. Clubs like Sonics, Team 91 Charlotte, Team 91 Carolina, FCA, and MLA are all expected to have highly contested matchups. Let’s take a closer look at some of these high-level clubs and highlight what to expect this weekend.

2028 Greenville Sonics Green

The Greenville Sonics are coming off a great showing at Project South. This balanced team is poised to make a deep run this weekend in Charlotte. The Sonics’ defense is what drives their success, holding teams to low scoring games. A stingy defense led by defenseman Colton Anderson and goalie Sam Livingston keeps games tight is where their offense can take advantage, they thrive in unsettled situations and capitalize on caused turnovers. Offensively, keep an eye out for the Sonics include midfielder Wallace Conger and attackman Fletcher Rash.

2028 Nashville Sonics

While these boys aren’t the flashiest, they may be one of the most efficient teams attending the Summer Champions Cup. We first saw this squad at the IL Fall Cup and had a chance to catch them again last weekend at Project South, it’s safe to say they’re our dark horse this weekend. They are great off the ground and earn a lot of their opportunities from 50/50 ground balls. If they control transition opportunities they typically control the scoreboard. This team relies on players like midfielder Mac Delbo, goalie Finn Casella, defenseman Blake Linton and attackman Thornton Deleot.

2029 Memphis Lacrosse Academy

MLA is looking to make waves this weekend. Their 2029 team is relentless and athletic with the numbers to keep guys fresh. Quality defense is their bread and butter, takeaways lead to transition opportunities for this group. The combination of attackman Cole Tidwell, attackman Hudson Rhodes and attackman Thomas Kovacs made both ends of the field very dangerous for this group. On defense keep an eye out for defenseman Streety Gates and defenseman Wallace Bradshaw,  two fundamentally sound players who anchor the defense. Dane Pierce is the main drive rBetween the boxes.

2031 Team 91 Carolina

Don’t be surprised if this 91 Carolina team is hoisting the trophy at the end of the weekend. They took home the trophy in their last two events, the Raleigh Laxfest and the Legends Invitational, and look to win their third of the year in Charlotte this weekend. They are a fast-paced, aggressive team that is built on fundamentals. Their offense moves the ball well and their defense can withstand long possession. This team will hoist another trophy if players like attackman Griffin Frank, attackman Harrison Colucci, midfielder Charlie Schertzinger, defenseman Conrad Gilchrist and LSM Gabe Murphy play well.

2031 Memphis Lacrosse Academy

This is one of the strongest defensive units we’ll see this weekend. Their half-field defense ignites transition on offense. On the offensive side, attackman Sutton Artiles and attackman Caden Wynne command attention from on ball defenders and offball attackman Cole Todd is always available for quick feeds for easy goals. Their defense is anchored by goalie Asher Wilson who is a force in net. If you get past your matchup, there is no guarantee that you will score on Wilson. This MLA team is poised to make a run this weekend.

2031 Team 91 Charlotte White

Run and gun is the name of this Team 91 Charlotte’s game. Most recently they took home the 2026 Carolina Show and look to repeat their success this weekend. This team is centered around capitalizing on the opponent’s missed opportunities. They are a well balanced and well coached team looking to take home a championship this weekend. When watching this club you’ll notice players like attackman Tatum Jensen, defenseman Michael Williams, midfielder Chris Warner, midfielder William Warner and goalie Jay Russell to make an impact.

2032 Team 91 Carolina

They are just like their older brothers. They have taken home the trophy in their last two events, the Raleigh Laxfest and the Legends Invitational. This 91 Carolina crew plays fast on offense and aggressive on defense. They look to push transition after forcing stops on defense. They thrive in between the boxes and look to jump on opponents right out of the gate. Their success this weekend hinged on key players like attackman Brian Malin, midfielder Taco Dickson, defenseman Jack Vance and goalie Max Shockley.

2034 Team 91 Charlotte Blue

For a young group, these boys play well above their age. A run-and-gun team that lives off fast breaks and runs a majority of their play through the midfield. When they aren’t up and down, this squad initiates their offense from the top down with players like midfielder Tucker Schlegel, faceoff midfielders Teddy Deterding and Jack Lynch. They have a dynamic duo on defense with goalie George McLester in net and defenseman Grayson Rhoten anchoring the defense. Rhoten is an absolute animal. Don’t be surprised if you see him pushing transition as he is a threat to go to the net.
